I managed to install a version of PHP, MySQL and phpMyAdmin on my system in a way they actually work together. After many hours, uncounted failures and several switches of versions (started with the most recent, and ended up with a collection of older ones, according to my webspace-provider's configuration) but no matter -- hey, I succeeded; Today is a good day, despite the rain.. ;]
