Today is an important day in the United States as today is when we remember those who have served or died in military conflicts. I myself am the son of someone who served in the military, so this day is quite meaningful for our family.

I would just like to thank the military of the United States for all the sacrifices they have made for this country, including my great uncle who died serving in World War II.

My family has had almost every generation go into the military, and my generation will be the first in recent memory (going back prior to the Civil War) to not go into the military. My great great great great grandfather (I think thats right) served in the Red Wing Infantry. My father served in the Persian Gulf War as well.

Again, I'd like to honor the men and women of the armed forces for their dedication to this country.

Thanks for the post. My father served in the military too, but thankfully never saw combat.

My paternal grandfather and the oldest brother of my mother died in WWII too. Another uncle survived the war but died later of the late sequelae of an old wound. Another uncle, who was just 14 as he was force to go to war, survived. But all his life he was kind of grumpy but I never understood as a child. Later after his dead and me being an adult I started to understood what terrible things he must have seen.

I feel sorry for them, what they had to experience and that I had never the chance to meet my grandfather, especially when I hear from my father and his sisters, that he was a hobby archaeologist.

And I'm very glad that I don't have to go to any war and hope that my country will stay peaceful in the future.
