Val'kia Navin is
Join Date: Aug 2005
Name: Major Val'kia Alani Navin
Homeworld: Born on Corellia, raised on Corellia and Coruscant
Occupation: New Republic Intelligence Command Officer, Nal Hutta Sector
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 63 kilos
Hair: Dark Auburn
Marital Status: Single
Family: Bryce and Alana (both deceased). No siblings.
Medical Alert: Resistance to bacta.
Ship: Hard to Get, a modified Hyrotii Crescent-class transport.
Skills: Good shot when she needs to be, decent pilot (nothing fancy) speaks several languages including Basic, Huttese, and Old Corellian (her favorite one to curse in).
Personality: Charming, outgoing, yet tough when she’s “on” in the role of hostess/owner of The ‘Dive, especially if she’s trying to glean some useful bit of information from clientele. During her rare off time she tends to be rather quiet and private as a much needed balance and at times she even can come across as cold.
She has no reservation about using her sexuality as a means of getting a job done, but only when necessary. Separating the emotional from the physical aspect of intimacy has never been an issue in the line of duty outside of one important exception during a mission which still affects her. Having masochistic leanings of her own, she prefers to seek out a select, rare type of partner who can oblige that side of her properly. The one person she feels any strong connection to though would likely as not end up killing her on first sight, or worse.
This tendency does serve a purpose when it comes to being interrogated. Her higher tolerance, and yes even need for pain has frustrated at least one Imperial interrogator in the past.
History: Born on Corellia 16 years BBY, Val lived a comfortable, yet interesting life as the only child of the head of Corellia’s Diplomatic Security Service and his wife, an aide to Senator Garm Bel Iblis. She spent much of childhood back and forth between her homeworld (where she lived in the same neighborhood and attended the same lower school as her best childhood friend Corran Antilles) and the Galactic capital. While on Coruscant, she attended the lower school for children of the Senate Diplomatic Corps staff. When she reached upper school age her parent’s employer arranged for a scholarship to the prestigious Imperial Preparatory Academy, the school of choice among the Coruscanti privileged.
Personal interest in the quality of her education was not the only motivation for her benefactor to place her in the school. Both her parents and Bel Iblis were covertly involved in the nascent, yet growing rebellion against the Empire and knew that youngsters tended to be a bit talkative about family business around their peers. So it was that Val’kia began her first foray into the intelligence game. Something her parents had been training her to do for years by encouraging her to commit nearly everything she'd see and hear to memory as well as teaching her the more overtly physical skills of spycraft.
Just months before her 16th birthday, Val’s entire world turned upside down. Her parents were on Anchoron, accompanying the Corellian Senator and his family for a speech he was to be presenting. In an attempt to permanently silence the senator’s increasingly vocal opposition to Palpatine’s rule, explosives were expertly planted in the venue. The plan went off without a hitch, so those who carried it out were led to believe. As fate would have it, Bel Iblis narrowly escaped and went into hiding. His family, Val’s parents, and many innocent citizens did not.
Imperial propagandists immediately went to work blaming the Rebels for the Corellian leader’s “death”. Val, who had stayed behind on Coruscant to study for end of term exams knew immediately that the story was a lie, her parents were dead, and that she was in big trouble. Fleeing her family’s apartment with only a few belongings, she made her way to one of the Rebel contact points she was aware of just for such a contingency and went into hiding. Moving from safehouse to safehouse every few months or so and carrying out whatever tasks she could to assist the Alliance's growing network on the Imperial capitol.
In the years between the Battles of Yavin to Endor, Val served the Alliance Military in many different roles. Courier, fighter, intell operative. Whatever she could do for the cause.
After the Emperor's death and the rise of the New Republic, she continued on in service to the military command before transferring to the recently established New Republic Intelligence Service. One of the first deep cover missions she was tasked with as a field operative was to get close to an Anaxsi businessman, Daiman Sirana, whom they were tipped was running weapons and supplies to entities opposing the New Republic and uncover any evidence the government had been unable to gather by traditional means. Against her training and better judgement, Val'kia got more involved with her target than she should have. The operation ended badly, due to efforts on the part of Sirana's bodyguard and friend and she nearly paid with her life.
After the incident with Daiman, she was transferred to NRI's Special Operations Section, the predecessor to Alpha Blue in terms of the "jobs" it's agents performed. Covert ops, subversion, assassinations, kidnapping and interrogations. Whatever orders for dirty work that NRI SpecOps Section Head Earryk Phaeden asked of them, they carried out.
The duties performed by Val during her time with the SOS began to take a toll on her psyche and the attitude she had to put up with from her Section Chief, who took the opportunity to bring up the screwup with Sirana more often than necessary, didn't help.
After a near breakdown and an increasing spiral into potentially more self-destructive behavior, Val thought more and more about leaving NRI service. Instead her friend and mentor Colonel Bron Haddon convinced her to take the duty of setting up the Nal Hutta sector base of operations. Her cover is proprietor of The HyperDive a cantina/gambling house/entertainment establishment in the Corellian sector on the moon of Nar Shaddaa. A popular hangout with fringers, mercs, pilots, smugglers, Imps, slumming tourists and anyone else who cares to patronize the place. Good, bad, or ugly...all are welcome. The 'Dive functions as an information gathering and transmitting station as well as a safehouse and contact point for New Republic agents.
Although seen as a semi-retirement move or even punishment by some in the New Republic Intelligence and Military, Val has managed to instead build a successful operation in a sector thought to be devoid of any real usefulness. She hasn't done it alone though. Her small team of agents keep the place running smoothly, both in it's disguise as a cantina and as an intel op.
Significant Others In Val's Life/History~~~~~~~~~~
Lieutenant Sionne Idrisfrom Abregado-Rae and a former Alliance soldier is her second in command. Si was originally assigned to the Nal Hutta station as a "watchdog" by Phaeden, who considers Val'kia a loose cannon and potential liability. He's come to know, admire, and trust Val though and is more loyal to her now than his NRI superiors. At first appearance he seems like just the typical bouncer musclehead thug, but skills with his fists and a blaster are matched by his intelligence, warmth and charm. He cares deeply for his fellow agents, especially Alema whom he has a spectacular crush on.
Cristoph Denson (DEADIFIED), a long-time friend of Val's from the years with the war with the Empire is a native of Alderaan. Cris lost his mother and two younger siblings when the planet was destroyed. He was offworld with his father, a chief curator for the Museum of Aldera, delivering antiquities to Corellia for an exhibit exchange. Born with the soul of an artist and poet as his mother was, he most likely would have followed in her footsteps. Instead he became a soldier, but never let the creative gifts he'd been blessed with go completely to waste, creating many works of beauty during his off duty time which he shared with his fellow agents. Much of the artwork gracing the walls of the Hyperdive were created by him and more than a few have been bought by appreciative patrons of the cantina.
Alem'adara, the newest member of Val's team is the eldest daughter of one of the wealthier clans on Ryloth. An educated, technically gifted beauty who isn't sure why she was assigned to Nal Hutta and really isn't sure she's happy about it. Younger and less experienced than most of the other people Val has worked with over the years, some at Intel Ops think the young Twi'lek is just "playing" at being an agent until she decides to return home to Ryloth and marry the son of another clan chief. Val is irritated by that attitude and has taken on the role of mentor as well as CO to train Alema and make her a better agent.
Major General Earryk Phaeden. Section Chief. New Republic Intelligence Special Operations Section. Val's Commander in Chief and sometime nemesis.
Colonel Bron Haddon. Commanding Officer. New Republic Intelligence Special Operations Section, Field Operations Division. Val's Immediate Superior Officer, mentor, and friend.
Captain Diric Nabira (DECEASED) New Republic Intelligence Special Operations Section, Covert Ops Strike Team Leader. Val's first love on Corellia at 15, later her SpecOps Strike Team commander and lover. Reunited when he exfiled her from Anaxes after the Op to infiltrate Daiman Sirana's organization was terminated. Killed in action in front of Val on Algara II 4.5 years earlier by Imperial forces.
Daiman Merritt Sirana. Industrialist/Philanthropist/Black Market Arms Dealer/Imperial Supporter/Former Special Operations Stormtrooper. Sirana was a target assigned to Val in a deep cover operation 8 years ago. She was to get intimately close to the man suspected of criminal activities and dealings with the remnants of Imperial rule as well as underworld organizations like Black Sun. Navin got much closer than she should have with her target, as did he with the agent and when her cover was blown he tried to kill her in a rage fueled by his anger and heartbreak. In spite of the damage Daiman inflicted mentally and physically, Val still has a stupid, self-destructive weakness for the man.
