Most are great, some aren't. When that kid full on smacks the cat in the head, the cat truly deserved to attack the kid and knock him off the bed. And I'd blame the kid, cat would get no punishment whatsoever.

I had a similiar situation with my younger nephew and my sister's dog.

My nephew was 5 years old and the dog not a year. My nephew teased him with taking away a toy. I said: "Let the dog alone." Of course he didn't. So the dog grabbed his arm with his teeth. Gladly Labradors don't bite that hard; they have a very soft grip because they are bred to bring shot down ducks out of the water. But of course my nephew screamt as if the dog would rip off his arm.

But I scolded the dog first, even with well knowing that he was right. But after all the dog is the lowest in rank in a family and had to respect that my nephew had a higher rank in the pack.

But after he let off, I checked that my nephew's arm had no damage. Then he got scolded too.

Of course the pets (the dog or the cat) were right, but in my opinion it's a big no-go when they attack people. And it shouldn't happen twice. I also think that the kids learn fast, not to tease an animal after such incident.

The dog should have gotten scolded for that. I taught my dogs very early on to never even growl over their food, toys, or treats. If they do, I take it away immediately so they know who is in control of their favorite things.

Which is why I hate when people videotape their "cute" pets growling at them when they reach for its toy. Not cool or funny, people.

Yeah, people forget that it's no game or cute. It's a fight of dominance in the pack.
