Faces of Epics

Matheron Thayer

How long have you been involved with Epics?

Since slightly before the switch from Tales to Epics. Makes about three years, I guess.

How many Characters do you write on Epics?

Four I'd say. No, five. Though, when it comes to actually writing . . .

Which characters do you write?

Matheron, Nash, Angus, Enzo and some obscure casual murderer called Djaevor. He's loathsome.

Can you explain briefly how he/she/they came into being?

Well, there was stormtrooper Kix Davin who needed a sidekick; Admiral Dodonna who once mentioned how well Sean Bean's looks in Equilibrium's would fit an Imperial; Rogue squadron, that urgently needed its quota alien; and Keith Hamilton Cobb who just looked the part of a lost Mandalorian. Oh, and Djaevor--don't know what was eating me--the best about him really is Sivan's attention.

What avatars represent your characters? Why did you pick them?

Oh, looks I got ahead of myself. Nash--Edward Norton--a favourite actor of mine due to the odd films he's in and resemblance to a guy I know in real; picked him also for he's Kix' sidekick in Fight Club, which is the favourite film. Matheron--Sean Bean is the perfect mixture of nice and rough, the villain with a mission, the misled fighter for good. Enzo--though Gungan, he really is an adaptation of Jean Reno in Luc Besson's 'Le grand bleu': a terrible poser, who but actually can dive. Djaevor--Peter Steele, lead singer of Type O'Negative--he's the sith.

Do you have a favorite post you've written, or favorite story you have been involved in?

Favourite posts would be some of the 'Coruscant, 11ABY' ones [eg. #20], as well the Imperial Renaissance, especially the ones including professor Haiman [#17], first person reports of terrible camwielder Karranden [eg.#38], or just generally most of the posts including the filthy resistance.

Did you develop your character's back stories or did you add it in after the character was established?

Both. I always enjoy adding to a basic framework, especially when there's a possibility to create credible links to fellow writers' characters.

What other parts of Epics do you enjoy?

Could we name the parts that I don't like? - Done.

Are the people in your life (spouse, significant other, family) supportive of your time on Epics?

Yes, my SO is, and so are most friends.

Do you roleplay anywhere else?

Nope. Though, I very occasionaly write a post for my own board that I used dote on--till Epics got me.

And now, for the off duty questions...

Real name and age? Please enclose a picture of yourself if you are so inclined.

Astrid, 31

Where do you live?

Germany, near Frankfort

What is your occupation?

Self-employed as a webdesigner and trainer

What is your favorite type of music/band?
I'm flexible. Like Billy Talent, Clawfinger or Committments just as well as Irish Folk. Though, I think, I don't like Jazz.

What kinds of hobbies do you have?

Writing, reading, kung-fu, softball, training in general, researching post-related stuff, roleplaying

What is your favorite way to relax?

Snooze. Else, any of the above.

Is there anything special you do when you write?
Oh yeah, I sink my teeth into paragraphs and become so set I could regularly kick my own ass.

Did you always love writing, and do you write anything else?

No, can't say so. As a kid I greatly preferred reading and the only stuff I write aside is when I reply to a letter or gotta think up some text for a client.
