Ok, here two shots of my LARP-Viking Gesa Arvedsdottir. I'm playing her for twelve years now, and she should have some richer cloths and jewellery by now due to her status, but I'm notoriously broke, so I do one little bit at a time. ;)

Re: Larp

Looks cool.

Where do you do Viking LARPs?

Re: Larp

Thanks Corran.

The last convention I attended was near Hannover at Brokeloh. Then there's the Winterthing of the Grand Army of Northlanders (a loose alliance of different groups of Viking larpers that do viking-related cons and visit the really big events every year with around 150 - 200 people) every year in January that takes place at Burg Lohra in Thuringia, but I wasn't able to attend it for the last few years (since I have children, I can go on conventions only once or twice a year). Mostly I attend little cons we organize ourselves that take place in the area.

Re: Larp

Sounds interesting. Do you play adventures or just doing their life style?

Re: Larp

Well, the whole thing takes place in a fantasy setting, though the Army of the Northmen likes to keep it quite authentically, at least when it comes to the attire, rituals and such. Magic is thus frowned upon with the Northmen, though there are a few Gode and Völva (something like northern priests and priestesses) who can do a bit of gods-powered magic.

The conventions which are organized by the clans of the Army are mostly ambience-cons with little episodes of adventure, like fighting against rambling goblins or driving bandits off the host's lands, for example. The focus lies mostly on the meeting of the clans and such, sometimes there are also marriages or other festivities happening there.
The Winterthing is the central event along those lines, where all the clans of the army gather to deliberate about where the army should fight in the coming year (all for glory and riches, of course), and feuds between clans are settled, a market takes place, military exercises take place etc.

And then there are the big conventions, like the Conquest of Mythodea (that's the one at Brokeloh, with over 8000 players from 16 nations this year…). The Northmen are one of the smallest factions there, but we are still able to impress possible and existing allies and frighten our foes. :D
There, you can encounter just anything - from orcs, trolls, undead and even much crazier creatures to brawling gangs in the streets of the city (they cloth like in Gangs of New York and are really nice guys, haha!). It's really cool. The play goes from the scheming of the great factions in the city to epic battles between the different kinds of settlers.

Re: Larp

Aye, it is. But one grows into it… ^^

And it's still your own choice if you want to involve in scheming and such or if you just like it plain - here are we, and there's the foe - on with it! ;)
I prefer the latter, though my character gets into some of the 'behind-the-scenes' stuff sometimes for she's the shieldmaiden (bodyguard) of a quite rich and influential merchant.
